OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Talk with recruiters from companies actively looking for qualified drivers at Johnson County Community College’s CDL Job Fair happening Thursday, Sep. 30, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Capitol Federal Conference Center (Regnier Center 101). The event is free and open to the public.

Recruiters from these local companies will discuss job opportunities and benefits:

  • DOT Transportation
  • T-Force
  • Schneider
  • Haz-Mat Response Inc.
  • American Central Transportation
  • EARP Distribution

JCCC offers weekday and weekend CDL classes. All program graduates complete an intense CDL theory course including hazardous material training for entry-level drivers. Having a hazmat endorsement on a CDL license makes JCCC students more marketable, shows a commitment to safety and allows graduates to drive for companies that transport potentially dangerous materials such as oil and fuel. This is especially valuable since there is a high demand for fuel delivery drivers.

According to a report by the American Trucking Association, the industry will be facing a shortage of nearly 100,000 drivers by 2023. As of 2019, the average median pay for a truck driver was around $59,000.
