At JCCC, our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is here to help non-native speakers navigate their classes and provide support for international students taking courses in the English language.
What will I learn in JCCC’s English for Academic Purposes program?
The English for Academic Purposes program at JCCC is designed for non-native speakers who want to develop their English skills for academic preparation and study at the collegiate level. Students in JCCC’s EAP program will learn English skills, including:
- Writing and Grammar
- Speaking and Listening
- Reading and Vocabulary

The EAP program gives students time to focus on developing English language abilities, as well as critical thinking and research skills. Learning these communication skills will help students feel prepared for academic and social interactions during college and beyond.

Complete an ESL assessment using any of the tests in the EAP Level Placement Table. The ACCUPLACER ESL test is free and can be taken in Testing Services, SC 334.If you are an F-1 student, please contact JCCC’s International and Immigrant Student Services (IISS) office at 913-469-7680 or iiss@jccc.edu.

EAP 061 English Grammar Review
Review parts of speech, sentence elements, and patterns. Develop writing fluency.
EAP 062 Sentence and Punctuation Skills
Compose and combine clauses that generate clear, effective, and correct sentences. Improve punctuation use.
EAP 063 Composing Skills
Choose a topic and organize short pieces of writing. Learn revision and editing strategies.
EAP 064 Revision and Proofreading Skills
Apply revising and editing skills to produce correctly written prose. Correct typical grammar, mechanical, and usage errors.
EAP 065 Writing for Research
Develop research skills for academic essays. Practice writing and integrating quotations, summaries, and paraphrasing.
Note: These courses do not fulfill degree requirements but will help you get a good grasp on the English language.
