Earn a college degree or certificate at no cost to you with the Kansas Promise Scholarship. JCCC is one of more than two dozen schools awarding it to qualified Kansans — providing a path to high-demand, high-value jobs within our great state.
Kansas Promise is a "last dollar" scholarship that can be used to pay for your tuition, books and other Promise-eligible course-related materials not covered by other scholarships or grants.
In exchange, you agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing your program of study.

Who’s Eligible for a Promise Scholarship?
You must be a United States citizen and a Kansas resident enrolled in 6+ credit hours in a qualified program. You must also meet one of the following criteria:
- Have graduated from a Kansas public or private high school (or equivalent) within the last 12 months OR
- Have been a Kansas resident for the preceding three consecutive years OR
- A dependent child of a military servicemember who is stationed in another state and, within the preceding 12 months, have graduated from an out-of-state high school (or equivalent) OR
- Have been in the custody of the secretary of children and families at any time when enrolled in and attending any of the grades 9-12 AND NOT be eligible for assistance under the Kansas Foster Child Educational Assistance Act.
Students who first applied for and entered a Promise Scholarship Agreement for Summer 2021, Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 shall continue to be eligible to renew that Scholarship in accordance with the terms of their existing Agreement.

How to Apply for a Promise Scholarship
For Kansas Promise Scholarship consideration, complete the following steps:
- Complete a JCCC Application for Admission. You must first be an accepted student for Promise Scholarship consideration.
- Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must complete the FAFSA for Kansas Promise Scholarship eligibility.
- Log in to the JCCC Scholarship Portal and complete the JCCC Scholarship Application for the current year to identify other scholarships you’re eligible to receive.
- Once you complete the JCCC Scholarship Application, if you meet initial eligibility criteria, the Kansas Promise Scholarship Application will appear in “My Tasks” on the JCCC Scholarship Portal home page. Complete the online application through the link provided.
- Meet with a JCCC Financial Aid Coordinator to finalize any paperwork.
- Meet with your counselor to help with major and course selection in your eligible program.
By entering into the Kansas Promise Scholarship agreement with the Kansas Board of Regents, you agree to abide by the terms of the contract:
- You will enroll as a full- or part-time student in a Promise-eligible program.
- You will maintain satisfactory academic progress toward completion of the program.
- You will complete your program of study within 36 months of initial funding of award.
