How can the Academic Achievement Center help me?

  1. Course-specific tutoring: Our tutors help with subjects that aren’t covered by the other centers. From game development to music, you’ll receive free, unlimited help to succeed in your courses.
  2. College-ready skills: Not sure how to take notes in class? Struggling with time management? Need help studying for a test? Drop in for help from our Learning Specialists. If you’d like long-term support, make an appointment with our Process Tutors.
  3. Reading comprehension: Approach your reading assignments with confidence! Visit with a Reading Specialist and develop critical thinking and comprehension competencies.
  4. Skill-building workshops: Are you ready for the JCCC semester? Sign up for one of our free workshops on topics like orientation and ACCUPLACER preparation to get your best start to Cavalier life.

To schedule an appointment in Penji:

  • Use your JCCC Stumail (Single Sign On) to sign in.
  • Once the account is activated, Select “AAC” on the left-hand side and then “I am a student” tab. This will open the appointment options and tutor availability.
  • Make an appointment with a tutor at the desired time by clicking on the available boxes and following the directions. A confirmation email will be sent to the JCCC Stumail account with the details of the appointment.

Note: Any user needing screen magnification over 150% should contact the Academic Achievement Center to schedule tutoring sessions if unable to complete the online request.

What will my Academic Achievement Center tutoring visit look like?

  • Check In at the AAC front desk.
  • If you’ve made an appointment: Make sure you arrive at the Academic Achievement Center 5 minutes early. Desk staff will connect you with the staff member with whom you've made an appointment.
  •  If you've made an online appointment: Check your student email (Stumail) for a link to join the meeting.
  • If you’re dropping in: Find a comfortable student space to work. Tutors, Learning Specialists, and Reading Specialists are available to assist you if you need help. Check out our schedule using the button above to see an updated list of drop-in hours for each service.

When can I visit the Academic Achievement Center (LIB 107)?

Spring and Fall Semester Hours
Monday - Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. 
Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 1 - 5 p.m.

Summer Hours
Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday - Sunday: closed

Smart Start Orientation

Are you new to JCCC or college in general? Are you really ready for the start of classes?

Sign up for a Smart Start session – a short academic orientation that teaches you how to manage your study schedule, navigate JCCC and get your best start to college!

At the Smart Start Academic Orientation, you will:

  • Get help navigating JCCC and your classes
  • Learn to be organized
  • Create a study schedule
  • Log in to your student email and Canvas

Plan to spend 50 minutes in your Smart Start session. If you do not see a time that works for your schedule, email aac@jccc.edu to schedule a special Smart Start time. Sign up for a session by clicking the link below. This link will prompt you to sign in to Penji through your JCCC SSO (Single Sign On). 

If it is your first time using Penji: The first time you access Penji, you will see a pop-up that asks you to create an account. Click the “Create Account” button to move forward. Then, use your JCCC SSO to sign in. For help accessing Penji for the first time, please watch this tutorial.

If you have used Penji before: Click the link above and sign in with your JCCC SSO (Single Sign On).”
Click “Join Event,” select a time and delivery method (in-person or online) that works for you, and click “Join Event” again.

Schedule a Smart Start


ACCUPLACER Preparation

Prepare for the ACCUPLACER test to ensure you get in the right classes for your knowledge level. We use an online training and skill-improvement software system to help identify areas that you need to review.

Visit or contact the AAC to set up your account. Once your account is set up, you may work independently on the review from any computer with internet access.
