More than what you learn in the classroom

All Interior Design courses are taught by award-winning professors with real-world experience. Network with professionals throughout your studies. You’ll have the chance to join several national industry student organizations:

Each spring, selected students redesign a room in the Symphony Designers’ Showhouse, a fundraiser for the Kansas City Symphony. You also complete a160-hour internship. You will graduate with a portfolio of studio projects and connections to many professional contacts.

Technical, creative, and business skills 

Meet with an Interior Design advisor before you plan your education path. Classes need to be taken in a specific order to ensure you can complete them in two years, but the department offers many options to help you prepare for the career you want.

  • Hone your knowledge in cabinets, fixtures, appliances, plumbing, and electrical solutions for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Master drafting for residential interior design and use the industry-design software. 
  • Develop knowledge in safety, building codes, space planning, and product selection.

After successfully completing JCCC’s courses, you qualify to take the  Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD) exam that can set you apart from the competition.

Get the competitive edge 

Continue your studies and go on to earn an Interior Design AAS at JCCC, or you can transfer your certificate to a four-year university to earn a bachelor’s degree. 

JCCC has transfer agreements with several well-regarded regional and national four-year institutions. Talk with the Interior Design department chair to learn more.
