Your generosity can help our honors students succeed.
Support the Honors Program
A college education is expensive, yet it has never been more important. Many of our high-achieving students find themselves holding one, or more, jobs while taking college classes so as to be able to pay rent, eat and afford the luxury of textbooks.
According to a 2019 report, the cost of textbooks in the United States has risen 812 percent since 1978. On average, college students spend $1,137 per year on textbooks. This means that some of our students must make the difficult decision to take fewer courses, or to forego meals to be able to afford textbooks.
To alleviate this major barrier to student success, the Honors Program at JCCC has established a book scholarship. Every semester, we offer three $200 scholarships to help our students defray textbook costs. This is a dent in their expenses, one that we hope to increase with your support.
Your contributions change students’ lives by making their college success possible, one book at a time. Our goal is both to increase the number of scholarships we are able to give and increase the dollar amount each recipient gets. We cannot do this without the help of generous donors.
